LOVEMOBIL

a film by Elke Margarete Lehrenkrauss

SYNOPSIS

When night falls in rural Germany, old VW-caravans decorated with flashy lights line the country roads which lead through potato fields and dark forests. Inside theses buses prostitutes from Eastern Europe and Africa await their clients who are passing by. The film portraits these women who came from far away in search for money and a better life. Until one day, in the ghostly atmosphere, a murder on one of the prostitutes happens and shakes up the whole scenery causing everybody to take action. A film about a microcosm that describes a society at the hardest end of a globalized capitalism.

Director´s Statement

The impulse for the film was a night-drive to my hometown after spending years abroad. Passing the caravans, they jumped at me as a grotesque picture of a microcosmos at the edge of society. So I decided to make a film about it, giving these women a voice. Throughout the course of three years, we tried to capture in atmospheric images and scenes what lies hidden in the dark abyss of these roads, aiming to convey the feeling what its like to live/work/dream/getting abused in this loneliness, depicted from the angle of our brave and captivating protagonists.
Lovemobil is a hybrid documentary using elements of mise en scene
